"That's all right," Matt encourages. "No, that's good. We might as well throw everything at the wall. A triple spiral. That's a pretty common sigil, right? Celtic churches would sometimes use them to represent the trinity. It's about unity, right? What else?"

When the waiter approaches, Matt stops searching his mind and listens. He doesn't much care for the detached, easy delight he hears in the man's voice. It's apparent that he knows much more than he's letting on. Like they are indeed a part of some game. Just like that, the waiter floats off in an air of his own easy sureness, and Matt's shoulders slump.

"It's a secret. Did you hear the way he said that? Secret, like we ought to already know?"
