"You're very kind." Chloe figures she's given enough reason for the other to put her in her place. There's a beat or two of silence before she shares something of her own. "I know a man a little like that." Said purely to serve as some sort of explanation for her remarks, not to steer the conversation away from the woman's story.

"But it was safe?" she ventures. "I mean... There's a difference between being alive in some form and living but... You were safe?" A tight lipped smile follows soon after. "Please tell me if I'm prying too much."
