The fact that Kyle's response isn't fear or instant hate, and is in fact almost blasé confusion, makes Carter stop and blink.

"You've never..." He almost laughs at himself and at how prepared he was for Kyle to start throwing rocks at him, but instead he's just asking questions.

"I..wow uh okay. This is going to sound wild but I was born with psychic abilities because of the X-gene." He explains, "It was passed down to me from my Dad and when I was about eight I started to hear people's thoughts and urm..move stuff with my mind."
