If there’s a bias in the telling of the story, it will impact upon how the listener interprets it, certainly. But if the storyteller has presented the events as they were, even if not necessarily the motivations or reasoning of those involved, then the events are as objective as they can be.

But I suppose there could also be the question of whether those who’d see themselves as monstrous would wish to frame themselves as such.
