"It really is, man. I'm not a touchy-feely type, especially not on a first meeting. I know it's something about self-improvement but count me out," he says. At least it's not just him. It seems they've all probably been hit by that on one of these damn islands.

"Most of us don't have secret identities," he says, which is rich coming from him. Almost no one knows his actual name. That was part of the deal, since his father is a disgrace. But that's a whole family honour thing or some shit that Hawks himself doesn't care about. It's not the way some other worlds do it, it's not about safety. It's about reputation and other things like that. Hawks doesn't want to be associated with a man like his father anyway, so who cares!

"But yeah, there's villains. And some of them preach big about how heroes are messed up, or power structures. It seems attractive to people with no quirks, or with ones they don't see as useful. Or sometimes people just wanna burn the world down for fun, I guess. I dunno. I don't really get how villains work." That isn't true either. He's been working with them as a spy, so he's been hearing their crap for awhile. He knows how some of them work, but he doesn't buy it himself. He's not always sure of the reasons why heroes do things either, but he's all in.

"This store can't go on forever. We'll get out," he says, reassuring. He does believe that, at least. "What'd you study?"
