For IV Mannequins, Gideon hasn't actually had almost any chance to treat people like they aren't real. The Ninth House generally neglected and spurned her so that she couldn't form relationships with most of them. She then was too interested in getting to know (the like 25) people she met after that or too confused (family reunions are complicated and confusing).
