“I know! It’s such a shame.” When she smiles, it’s both self-conscious and amused. “I think I might have overwhelmed him a little by telling him how striking he is. I mean, being modest has its charms but I don’t think it would hurt for him to see himself in a more favourable light.”

She’s slightly surprised he’s open to the idea, but only slightly. Carter seems easy-going enough to go along with most things, really. Nor does he seem to mind a silly idea or two. “Oh, it’s easier than you’d think. We could use some salt water with a bit of twisting. Or there’s braiding it. You can even roll up a shirt like a headband and tuck your hair into it but I’m not sure if that’s a look you’d appreciate.”
