It's not uncommon for someone to associate the smallest things with specific people. A noise or a scent, or sometimes a color. In this case it was a combination of color and sound. The sound of feathers and that specific shade of red drew David from his investigation of the temple.
"Jay?" he called out, expecting that combination to, well, mean someone familiar. Instead he found a man that, well, could easily be a strange mix between Jay and his older brother Sam. And he felt weird, over the fact that he'd said a name that clearly had no place here.
"Uh, sorry. You were asking something about the fish?"
