David had set out to find the young villager after the disappointing moment of finding no one willing to join him on the search in the night. Because that's just the sort of guy he was, someone that was going to get things done in the end, no matter if he had support or not.
So there was something particularly frustrating about getting to where the mantises have gathered and finding Quentin Quire of all people there, chilling like he owned the place, clearly caught up in some sort of meeting of the minds.
"Full telepaths suck," David grumbled under his breath, but he didn't come too close, he didn't want to interrupt what good Quentin might be able to do here. Wasn't like there was a better way to communicate with the creatures than telepathy most likely.
So he stood and waited to be notice, a small beacon of frustrated mental energy and a point of golden light radiating out from the psionic energy projection in the shape of a lantern held in David's hand.
