People wouldn't expect it of him but he hasn't been a stranger to library since he found the place. Just browsing it to see that there are no shortage of titles here he recognizes tells him something about this place and its inhabitants. And the title he doesn't recognize, well they just might give him some insight into either their keepers or the worlds other people have come here from.

He's got a book in hand about plant life, but he watches this fellow who, for a while, he thought might be here for the same reasons as him. Andrew Lang makes for an interesting choice though.
